Spindles 2017

In order to get the desired drive characteristics we were looking for, we created custom go cart knuckles.

 

Bill of Materials (1 Spindle)

1x DOM Tube 2″  (OD.75″—ID.62″) “King Pin Sleeve” Source
1x Bolt 5″ (3/4-10) “Axle” Source
2
x Flange Bushing .75″ (OD.625″—ID.50″) Source
1x TRE Mount (.125″ Steel) Source
1
x Nut (3/4-10) Source
1
x Spindle Bracket Source
1x Bolt “King Pin” 3.5″ (1/2-20) Source
1x Nut “King Pin Nut” (1/2-20) Source

Instructions

  1. Mark and cut your DOM tube to 2.125″ long
  2. Using a dremel or .625″ flapwheel, clean the inside of the DOM tubing .75″ deep on each end.
  3. Using a vice or mallet, press the bushing into either end of the tube.
  4. Take your 3/4 “Axle” bolt and cut at 10degree angle. (This can be done using a wooden jig or on a chop saw that allows for angled cuts.)
  5. Cut out TRE mount out of sheet steel or do nothing if pre-purchased.
  6. Weld “Axle” bolt to the center of your DOM tubing.
  7. Weld the TRE mount to the top or bottom of the bolt 90degrees offset
  8. Place welded assembly inside of Spindle Bracket
  9. Insert 1/2-20 bolt and tighten the nut down, enough that it seats but does not crush the Spindle Bracket.
